ISS HamTV Blank transmission report

Postby F6DZP » Mon 10 Mar 2014 16:13

Hello,
In this discussion we could put all of us our observations and report about tracking HamTV blank transmission.

Freq = 2422 MHz - SR1300 - using 1m20 dish, Kuhne down converter and TT S2-1600

Today I chose 3 passes over France, I give local time ( = UTC+1):

==> 9h33 max elevation : 50.6° at 9h36

I have well received and recorded the black video during about 4 mn from 9h34 to 9h38 but forgot to click the record data and record TS buttons before this pass.( I was too much excited...)
so I started to record 1 sec after AOS
LOS was made when ISS was at a distance more than 1000 km
the tiouneData give this result:

In the top of the graphic, the "TS OK" line show when we receive good TS : it is green, and red when not. That show quicly the result of the pass

little vertical red line in the big graphic show Wifi interferences that make lost 1 packet (188 bytes).

the TiouneMonitor could be observed:

F6DZP tiounemonitor 10_03_2014_9h33.jpg (132.83 KiB) Viewed 82274 times

==> 11h11 max elevation 32.9°

I received and decode the video but with some cut in the signal due to Wifi interferences in a lower signal.
the tiouneMonitor show that at right of the graphic . ( video is OK at a MER> about 5dB)
F6DZP tiounemonitor 10_03_2014_9h33 and 11h11.jpg
F6DZP tiounemonitor 10_03_2014_9h33 and 11h11.jpg (133.38 KiB) Viewed 82274 times

==> 12h48 max elevation 63.5°
I started to receive good video at 12h48:56 and stop to receive at 12h53:27 so during about 4mn30sec
but in the middle of the pass, when the dish was high, it turned suddenly by south, and the pass was by North! so I lost some time to recover the video.
This is a bug in the tracking software.
When I lost the video, ISS was at 1400 km and I continue to receive some burst of video until 1500 km
F6DZP_TiounedataReader_10_03_2014_12h48.jpg
We can see the red part in the middle of the pass: I lost signal because a bug in the tracking software

the tiounemonitor:
F6DZP tiounemonitor 10_03_2014_12h48.jpg
At 12h50 I lost signal due to AZ rotor turning 180° by south for a North pass.

Today I have received 2 reports from IK1SLD

First was taken the 09_03_2014 :

We can see that some packets arrived early but after a while a big stop (Red zone) some interferences or signal masked by some building..? and suddenly he received a good signal from 12h43:24 to 12h44:46.

Second report is for today 11_03_2014 at 6h05:

There are 4mn 37 between AOV (Acquisition Of Video) and LOV (Lost Of Video) looking at the TS OK green part.
from 06h09:22 to 06h13:57
with I suppose some lost of packets due to WIFI interferences I suppose.

News from Colin Watts G4KLB

He can receive some TS packets but often with bad values, he seems to have difficulties to get a strong signal and impeach Wifi interferences.

My last tests today.

Not very beautiful but with the last path I got video until a distance of 1700 km with 7° elevation , last packets arrived at 5.6°with 1800 km distance.

I know I have to fix my elevation calibration ratio,, I have made some tests and modifications this morning testing new Wispdde without the "180°_south_turn_bug" try other thing, so my elevation calibration is no more good, I cannot keep the signal when elevation rise to high. So as you can see I geyt the signal at the beginning of a pass, lose it in the middle and get it again at the end.
I have also a Tree that makes some disturbing results at the beginning.

So by my side I have made a very good discovery by knowing now that , if the tracking is very well done, the wifi interferences not too strong and the antenna not disturbed by obstacle, I could receive with an elevation down to 7° with a distance of 1700 km.
But many work remain to do.

TiouneDataReader is in the package when you download Tutioune1600 full installation package. ( see vivadatv download section)

or can be downloaded here :

Hello,
Today for the first time I have received the new frequency : 2395MHz. No more Wifi interferences.
But :( I forgot to plug the usb cable for tracking system... I do It in the middle of the pass and immediately a beautiful signal without interferences.
